1The Public Gambling Act, 1867

( ACT NO. II OF 1867 )

♣An Act to provide for the punishment of public gambling and the keeping of common gaming-houses in Bangladesh.
  Preamble
 
WHEREAS it is expedient to make provisions for the punishment of public gambling and the keeping of common gaming-houses in Bangladesh; It is enacted follows:-
 
Short title and extent
2[1. This Act may be called the Public Gambling Act, 1867 and shall extend to the whole of Bangladesh 3[except 4[a Metropolitan Area]].]

    Throughout this Act, except otherwise provided, the words “Bangladesh”, “Government” and “Taka” were substituted, for the words “East Pakistan”, “Provincial Government” and “rupees” respectively by section 3 and 2nd Schedule of the Bangladesh Laws (Revision And Declaration) Act, 1973 (Act No. VIII of 1973).

    Section 1 was inserted by section 3 and 2nd Schedule of the Bangladesh Laws (Revision And Declaration) Act, 1973 (Act No. VIII of 1973).

    The words “except the Dhaka Metropolitan Area” were added by the Schedule of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Amendment) Ordinance, 1976 (Ordinance No. LXIX of 1976).

    The words “a Metropolitan Area” were substituted, for the words “the Dhaka Metropolitan Area” by the Schedule III of the Chittagong Metropolitan Police Ordinance, 1978 (Ordinance No. XLVIII of 1978).
