Chapter IX

OF BAILMENT

General lien of bankers, factors, wharfingers, attorneys and policy- brokers
171. Bankers, factors, wharfingers, 2[advocate of the Supreme Court] and policy-brokers may, in the absence of a contract to the contrary, retain, as a security for a general balance of account, any goods bailed to them; but no other persons have a right to retain, as a security for such balance, goods bailed to them, unless there is an express contract to that effect.

    Throughout this Act, except otherwise provided, the words "Bangladesh", "Taka" and "Penal Code" were substituted, for the words "Pakistan" or "East Pakistan", "Rupees" or "Rs." and "Pakistan Penal Code" respectively by section 3 and 2nd Schedule of the Bangladesh Laws (Revision And Declaration) Act, 1973 (Act No. VIII of 1973).
