20. (1) A Forest Settlement Officer shall be appointed by the Government in respect of every forest of which the control is vested in a Regional Forest Officer by a notification under sub-section (2) of section 6 or under section 7 or under section 11, and may be appointed in respect of any controlled forest on the application made in this behalf to the Government by its owner. (2) Such appointment shall be made by a notification specifying in such notification as nearly as may be possible, the situation and limits of such forest.
