Functions of the Chairman and other members
9. (1) The Chairman shall be the chief executive of the Council 1[and shall, subject to such general or special direction as may be given to him by the Government, be responsible for the efficient administration and proper conduct of the affairs of the Council].
 
 
(2) The Chairman and other members shall exercise such powers as may be prescribed and perform such functions and discharge such duties as may be assigned to them by the Board from time to time.

    The words and commas “and shall, subject to such general or special direction as may be given to him by the Government, be responsible for the efficient administration and proper conduct of the affairs of the Council” were added by section 6 of the Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (Amendment) Ordinance, 1984 (Ordinance No. LII of 1984)
