145. (1) Where a seaman is discharged before a Shipping Master in Bangladesh, the master or owner of the ship shall pay the wages of the seaman through, or in the presence of, the Shipping Master unless a competent Court otherwise directs; and in such a case, if the master or owner pays the wages in any other manner, he shall, for each offence, be punishable with fine which may extend to two thousand Taka. (2) If the master or owner of a home trade ship of less than two hundred tons gross so desires, he may pay the wages of the seaman of that ship in the same manner as a seaman discharged from a foreign going ship is paid.
