Penalty for detention in custody beyond a certain period
56. Any police-officer who detains in custody a person arrested without warrant for a longer period than under all the circumstances of the case is reasonable or, in the absence of a special order of a Magistrate under section 167 of the Code, detains an arrested person in custody for a period exceeding
twenty-four hours shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months, or with fine which may extend to one thousand taka, or with both.
